Dursley Lions have recently made two significant charitable donations!

The first was to the Bristol Urological Institute when immediate Past President Dave Hoskins completed the donations from his President's Project. The money will go towards a histoscanner used during the initial investigations on a patient thought to have prostate cancer. Altogether, Lion Dave with the members of Dursley Lions Club raised £6500 with his project for prostate cancer charities during his presidential year

The second was to Guide Dogs for the Blind when Dursley Lions donated £5000 under the " Name A Puppy" scheme. Our puppy was born on April 26th and named Dennis after a Dursley charter member, Lion Dennis Haddrell who has been a member of Lions International for 33 years. The naming appropriately commemorated a significant birthday for Lion Dennis! His namesake Dennis is currently living in Stonehouse during his initial training but will then move to Leamington Spa for full training - over his working life he will cost a total of £40000.

Dursley Lions Club raises in excess of £40,000 per year for charities and other worthy causes locally, nationally and internationally.  We have supported local playgroups, counselling services, trusts and also funded schools in third world countries.  Our main source of fund-raising is the weekly furniture sale which raises approx. £25,000 per year.  Our other big event is the Frocester Beer Festival, which raised £20,000 for charity in 2008. We also hold an annual Christmas Dance with a supper, music, dancing, tombola and raffle, and this too raises several hundred pounds each year.

We would like to thank all those who have helped support our events, by donating, attending or volunteering their help.  Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated, without which, much of what we have achieved would be impossible.
